HRH Queen Elizabeth II is 90 years old or she was on 21 st April 2016 her real birth date. The Queen’s official birthday will be celebrated on Saturday 11 th June 2016 with Trooping the Colour. With all its military pageant and splendour it has taken place every year with a few exceptions since 1755. First performed on the Sovereigns birthday for King George III, the parade is now held on the day allocated to the Queen’s official birthday.

The ceremony derives its meaning quite literally from the custom of “trooping” the colour or flag of a regiment through the ranks every evening, so that during battle every soldier could recognize and rally to his correct flag on the battlefield.

The monarch will be joined by members of the royal family for the traditional Trooping the Colour parade between Buckingham Palace, The Mall and Horseguards’ parade to mark the special day. Royal watchers will be hoping for a glimpse to see Prince George and Princess Charlotte as the royal family gather on the balcony at Buckingham Palace for the fly-past by the Royal Air force to salute the Queen.
